DIY Mouthwash

Jump to Recipe

Mouthwash. It’s one of those things that I haven’t used consistently as I should have throughout the years, mainly because I always hated the taste of it. Mouthwash has lots of benefits to it like helping with canker sores and combating cavities. Ones with a high alcohol content though can irritate canker sores and even stain or darken teeth depending on the ingredients. Not to mention the danger if a child ingests it. When making the switch in my oral products, I decided I needed to see what to do to make a mouthwash that fit my new lifestyle as well as taste okay. Thankfully, there are plenty of recipes online for you to work with until you find one that works for you. The recipe below is the one I have settled on and have been using it for a couple of years. You can obviously use whatever essential oils you want but I find orange ginger and peppermint together make the tastiest combo. This recipe lasts me about a month or so depending on how many times a day I use it.

*Makes two cups and fits perfect in a mason jar. I found the standard metal mason jar lid pictured was starting to rust so I switched to a non-PBA reusable plastic lid instead. I found a pack of 5 for like $4 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
