Kaolin Beauty
I believe the saying, “You are the company you keep” and I am very lucky to have an incredible group of people around me. I met Michelle Beaudette back when I was working at Trader Joe’s outside of Boston. We were co-workers and became fast friends over our desire to have clean, vegan/cruelty-free, and zero waste beauty products on the market. It was so nice to meet someone that has the same vision I have for reducing our carbon footprints and making products/content that leave a positive mark on this world. Michelle wanted to make a non-toxic, clean beauty product line that had simple ingredients you know by name. I’m so proud of her and all she has accomplished so far with her Kaolin Beauty line.
Kaolin is a type of clay that is found in nature and is used in a variety of ways for medicinal purposes. Using that energy, Kaolin Beauty’s mission statement that can be found on their Etsy page here, explains how they use a holistic approach to personal care. “Kaolin Beauty is a mission-driven, ethical, non-toxic, zero-waste makeup company that strives for both spiritual and environmental excellence. Our goal is to create beautiful makeup and self-care products that are healing for both your skin and soul. We use a heart-centered approach, meaning that all of our ingredients are sourced ethically from suppliers with extremely high standards, and the products themselves are all handmade. Our makeup selection is infused with regeneratively grown herbs that offer a variety of healing benefits, and each product contains beeswax that is sourced from local beekeepers. Kaolin Beauty takes a holistic approach to personal care, ensuring that each customer radiates beauty and self-love both internally and externally.” They do use locally sourced beeswax in their makeup, so it is up to each vegan on buying that or not. I personally avoid honey and beeswax like I would other animal byproducts, but if I were to ever try a makeup that had beeswax, this would be the one. I know they locally source their beeswax and I trust my friend to make ethical choices when it comes to the vendors she uses.
They are currently working on their website which launches October 1st, but you can buy all their products online at their Etsy shop here. If you live in the Boston, Massachusetts area, they can often be found at pop-ups around the city and surrounding area. Following their Instagram is the best way to know where they will be. You can also buy items off Lochtree’s website here, and they recently started selling all their items at the UVIDA Boston Plastic Free Shop. UVUDA is Boston’s first and only zero waste store which is awesome, and a place I can’t wait to visit the next time I am in town.
The products are awesome because not only are they made from clean ingredients, but the packaging is eco-friendly too which I love. Both the face masks come in packaging that is compostable, the jars the makeup come in can be reused or recycled, and the box the makeup jars come in boxes are made from plantable seed paper packaging from botanical paperworks found here. You can actually plant the box and grow flowers from the box! How cool is that? By buying this makeup over a name brand one, you are putting positive vibes back into the earth with a plant over the plastic waste of standard ones.
The face masks come in two versions, a spirulina matcha detox mask and a rose aloe purifying mask. I have the spirulina matcha mask and not only does it smell like a green smoothy I would make, but my skin was left feeling smooth and clean for days after. I can’t wait to try the rose aloe one as well because I’ve heard great things. Another awesome thing about Kaolin Beauty, is self-care is more than beauty products to them. Each item comes with a QR code on the package that is a link to meditations that pair well with your time using the masks. Mental health is equally as important as your physical health, and I want to support a company that understands the value of that.
I actually got the chance to try the matcha mask while talking mental health and self-care with Michelle during one of the company’s Face Mask Friday on their Instagram IGTV channel linked here. I was honored to talk all about the blog, my vision for the future of my brand and our planet, and how important self-care and clean products is to Kaolin Beauty and Michelle herself. It’s a great watch and I recommend anyone with the time to take a look.
From the face masks, cheek and lip toner, and luminizers, there is something for everyone and you can feel good about whatever you end up trying. Ingredients like organic cocoa butter, organic jojoba oil, kaolin clay, and organic spirulina powder are all things you want to see in your beauty products and are found in Kaolin Beauty. Make sure you head to their Etsy page here to check out their products, or to the other shops I listed above. Also head over to their Instagram account here to follow them and watch our #FaceMaskFriday live together. You vote with your money every day, so I like sharing companies I believe in with you, so you are in the know. 😊
